Hey. I was thinking about getting an ukulele just for fun. I’ve been fooling around with a couple in music stores and they kind of sound neat. They’re affordable ones too, so getting one won’t break my bank account.
I was wondering if the guitar standard tuning would work on an ukulele, perhaps even changing the order of the strings to match that of the guitar. That way, it would be pretty much like a 4-string bass actually, which I consider my primary instrument, making it quite easy to figure out. Has anyone done that? What were the results?
It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s only that I want to play ukulele for fun, but I don’t want to learn a whole fretboard/chords again as I’m focusing almost exclusively on my bass playing. That’s why I’m asking.
Thanks in advance.
If you haven’t already bought one, get a Baritone Ukelele, they tune like the first 4 strings of a guitar, and there is such a thing as a Bass Uke, made by Kala, it has a pick up and sound awesome…

A guy in my band tunes his (EADE) half a step higher than you would a normal guitar, mandolins are the same but they use different strings, but thats by an electric tuner, you could also try it by ear.

unfortunately for you, a ukulele and a guitar run on tow different tuning scales. If you need to tune your ukulele you ether need to buy a separate tuner or use a piano. The order of the strings cannot be changed ether.
