i cant seem to find wat Paul merson said about johnson tho i saw johnson comments towards the Arsenal legend.

Anyone got a link or does anyone remember the quotes. yh sorry im a bit late didnt kno about it.

This waz johnson reply and yes i kno im late but wat did paul merson say first ????

"Comments from alcoholic drug abusers are not really gonna upset me and who is Paul Merson to judge players, he was average at the best of times," Johnson wrote. "The only reason he’s on that show is coz he gambled all his money away. The clown!"

I find it quite funny that all Liverpool fans are upset about this but also liverpool fans need to understand that their legend Mr Alan Hansen always attacks Arsenals Theo walcott even if he scores a hattrick in the a game. He always has something bad to say about him.

Nam – Paul Merson was NEVER average, one of the most gifted English midfielders of his generation and was a key player from George Graham’s side in wresting the title away from Anfield during your glory years (a MASSIVE achievement considering Liverpool were probably the best team in the world then, never mind England)

Johnson is a jealous little mong

Tell him to come back with the same achievements Mersey had or gtfo

People might not like Mersey as a pundit

It’s all handbags at ten paces… To my mind, once you engage in such petty nonsense, you have technically ‘already lost’

Johnson needs to grow up. Merson needs to shut up. End of…

I don’t like Johnson one bit. I admit he is a waste of money. However, I agree with Glen about Merson. He was totally spot on. So, there is no winner in this arguement.

@Jack, I tell you I never like Glen, and he is a waste of money. I never said Glen is better than Merson. However, Merson was an drug addicted and alcoholism.

Alan Johnson was a great member of the cabinet and will be missed. Was the Chancellor job clearly wrong and was the decision to place him there a reason for the public to have lost a great member of the opposition?

He was totally out of his depth. L@@K at the disgraceful numpty. He didn’t know WHAT his own party would do as an alternative to the Tory cutbacks.

What "woulda, coulda, shoulda" is very irrelevant in this case. The BBWAA is the most inept organization ever created by the human race. They have never gotten it, they still don’t get it, and they never will get it! Here are my votes, (yes and no), that apply to your list.

Bert Blyleven (Yes, should have been elected years ago)
Roberto Alomar (Yes, should have been a first ballot HOFer)
Jack Morris (Yes, the BBWAA needs to tell me why not)
Barry

I dont think any of the alleged steroid users will make it: McGwire, Brown, Gonzalez? and Palmeiro.

Meanwhile, these guys I like best: Roberto Alomar, Jack Morris, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Jeff Bagwell, and Larry Walker. Maybe Lee Smith or John Franco if they are generous.
Tonman | Dec 28, 2010

Should and will are such different things. I guess the writers are going to put Blyleven in. He deserved it before now. Who knows about the rest? SHOULD would be Alomar, Morris, Larkin, Smith, Martinez, Raines, Trammell, Parker, Bagwell, Gonzalez, and the PED users McGwire and Palmiero shouldn’t but might. I realize they can’t all go in this time, but they should. I’m only going to go so far off base as to say Blyleven. I’ve NO respect for the writers.
sarrafzedehkhoee | Dec 28, 2010

The only lock is Robbie Alomar.

I would hope Bert Blyleven gets in.
Lee Smith deserves it.
Dale Murphy where he might lack in stats he makes up for in his professionalism.

McGwire and Palmeiro should be locks but they’re cheating lying peices of crap. Never!
sandberg062384 | Dec 28, 2010

Blyleven is right on the border, he might just make it this time….but if not, I think he will slip back next year.

Natural vote pullers are Larkin, Bagwell and Robbie Alomar…I think none will go in, but there will be an indication of support….all 3 might make it later.

Larry Walker is not a true HOF player, but he might poll votes as voters shun Mc Gwire and Palmeiro.

Tim Raines has a case for considerstion, but those votes might go to Blyleven.
chrisarrow222 | Dec 28, 2010

Bert Blyleven- I think he finally gets in this year after a long wait.
Roberto Alomar-Will be in this year, only held out for a year because of his conduct.
Jack Morris- WIll gets around 50% of votes, but no induction.
Barry Larkin-I think he makes it this year, if he doesn’t he will before 2013.
Lee Smith-Will fall short again, though he should have been in with Sutter and Gossage.
Edgar Martinez- Will never overcome DH issue.
Tim Raines-Probably will get

I’m guessing the known and suspected "juicers" will still be kept out..that means McGwire and Palmeiro obviously…but I wonder about a guy like Bagwell. He has the numbers, but there were always whispers about whether or not he juiced.

Alomar also has the numbers, but the writers still remember the "spitting" incident…and the HIV rumors may hurt him too. But he only missed by 8 votes last year…so this could be the year.

If i am not mistaken i believe each Baseball Writer is allowed to choose 10 per ballot. With that being said if i had a ballot i would choose:
Blyleven
Alomar
Larkin
Raines
McGwire
McGriff
Mattingly
Baines
Bagwell
and………………………………. .Drum Roll Please
Palmeiro
With Blyleven and Alomar the only inductees with more than 75 % of the vote
1 and done:
Santiago
Rueter
Mondesi
Martinez johnny z | Dec 28, 2010

Blyleven and Alomar this year. Bagwell deserves it, but it’s rare for three players to be voted in at the same time. I think he will have to wait.

bagwell will too
Bucky | Dec 28, 2010

The only lockS are Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven- there’s no way either gets THAT CLOSE and doesn’t get in the following year.
The only other two I see as ‘possibly’ getting in this year are Jeff Bagwell (who ‘could’ be a first ballot HOFer) and maybe Barry Larkin. But that would require quite a jump (the reason I didn’t say Jack Morris, who had slightly more votes last year than Larkin, is because it was Larkin’s first time- there’s no telling how many ‘Not on the FIRST ballot!’ voters
Masternachos | Dec 28, 2010

Alomar and Blyleven get elected.

Bagwell is the best candidate among the ballot rookies, but he’s difficult to predict. Deserves it, sure, but there is a strong contingent of voters who are hedging close to a whispering campaign about rumored steroid usage. They won’t SAY anything, but they’ll hint and allege all the livelong day. They do enjoy their petty torments.

Mattingly and Blyleven. Mattingly the great 3rd baseman and Blyleven with that nasty curveball of his.

Alan Johnson Resigns As Shadow Chancellor

20.01.11

In a statement Mr Johnson said: “I have found it difficult to cope with these personal issues in my private life whilst carrying out an important front bench role.”

The move comes as various changes are announced in the shadow cabinet.

Ed Balls will now become shadow chancellor and Yvette Cooper is set to take over as shadow home secretary.

Douglas Alexander will become shadow foreign secretary and Liam Byrne is the new shadow work and pensions secretary.

Ed Miliband said: “It is with great regret that I have accepted the resignation of Alan Johnson.

“As Shadow Chancellor and a politician who held five Cabinet positions, Alan showed real leadership on issues that mattered to families across our country, warning of the dangers posed by the government’s gamble on growth and jobs, promoting educational opportunity and delivering neighbourhood policing.”

Mr Balls, a former Treasury minister who came third in last year’s Labour leadership contest and has long coveted the economics role, said: “It is a great honour to be appointed to this post, and to succeed my friend and colleague Alan Johnson whose commitment to social justice and service to the Labour Party is second to none.”

Sky’s Political Editor Adam Boulton said: “One of the answers we don’t have at the moment is whether resigning for ‘family reasons’ is effectively a version of the ‘I want to spend more time with my family’ reason which ministers often give then they think their face no longer fits, or whether there is a something more substantial in it.”
